"With an energetic beat that perfectly backs up the bold, confident vocals, “The Love I Can’t Let Go” is a gorgeous pop track with the weight of rock behind it."- New Noise

“The Love I Can’t Let Go began as a rhythmic, darker, and moodier synth-rock idea with a simple groove I started writing in Logic Pro in December of 2019,” explains frontman Ryan Chandler Love. “Originating as such a rudimentary idea built around a pretty basic drum loop, it’s one that I would have never thought would end up being my favorite track on our debut EP. Sometime in 2022, about a year into playing the first handful of abandcalledlove shows, I dug the session back up, finished the basic structure of the demo, and then sent it over to the guys for opinions. I started writing lyrics shortly after.”

“Lyrically, the song is largely about my past struggles with addiction (particularly as an alcoholic) and wanting desperately to get to a place where I didn’t need it, while also employing the lens of a toxic relationship as a framing device,” he continues. “There was a period where I literally couldn’t sleep without drinking, and I articulated that just as literally in the chorus. I wanted to paint a vivid, intentional picture for people who don’t or can’t understand what dealing with alcoholism can feel like by framing it as something a wider audience can relate to.”

Love adds, “Despite the stark awareness of what I was doing to myself, I found myself coming back to it daily, drinking excessively with seemingly no control. Because the song’s composition and production—especially the moodier electronic elements paired with the poppier chorus—started to materialize as that habit was taking a heavy toll, the rest of the lyrics came naturally. I remember feeling so broken one day, sitting in front of my studio computer and crying my eyes out while typing the lyrics into a note in my phone. Reflecting now, after celebrating two years of sobriety, I can confidently say I couldn’t be more proud of a song on this EP than I am of ‘The Love I Can’t Let Go.’”

About abandcalledlove.

Formed in early 2020 by Ryan Chandler Love (vocals/guitar/keyboards) and Ian Joshua Riley (guitar/producer), abandcalledlove. quickly grew from a collaborative studio project into one of Atlanta’s most buzzed-about rising live acts. Rounded out by Blake Aldridge (guitar), Brooks Roberts (bass), and Austin Yagle (drums), the band made their live debut in 2021 with a sold-out show at The Masquerade, following early breakout single “Colors Bloom.” Since then, they’ve delivered a string of acclaimed self-produced singles, sold out half of their sixteen live shows to date, and shared stages across all four Masquerade rooms as well as throughout the Southeast.

On Thriving Season, the band teamed with producer/engineer Corey Bautista (The Callous Daoboys, Celebrity Therapist), who helped sharpen their signature blend of soaring melodies, atmospheric textures, and propulsive energy.

Beyond their own music, abandcalledlove. members are deeply embedded in the industry. Both Love and Riley are part of the Recording Academy/GRAMMYs Class of 2025 and are active producers/songwriters with credits on multiple Billboard-charting releases. Riley also tours with indie chamber-pop collective Adjy (Triple Crown Records/Round Hill Music). This summer, the band gained extra buzz by guest featuring on Woe, Is Me’s comeback single “Seminola Blvd.”

Fans can catch abandcalledlove. live at Atlanta’s Center Stage on September 25, supporting viral TikTok breakout Cuffing Season, the night before Thriving Season officially drops.
