LAS VEGAS, NV -- On June 21st in Las Vegas, I had the pleasure of photographing and documenting a VERY influential emo band, Bayside, during what they offered for two nights of shows in Vegas. I was at Night One, and it was incredible.
Bayside turned 25 this year, marking a monumental moment for the band and its legacy over the past 25 years. I started listening to Bayside back in high school when I discovered them from my friends' CDs, and it was their first album, Sirens And Condolences. I was hooked ever since I heard the album from front to back. When I heard they’re playing an intimate show at Fremont Country Club, I wanted to capture and document the show. I gotta give credit to Smash Magazine and their team for how they pulled off a big show with all their production in a thousand-cap room.
The Smoking Popes opened the show, and they’re a fun band to see. Apparently they’re one of Bayside's inspirations for their music, and I could hear some of the similarity in it. For the first time seeing them for the first time, I was having fun with their set. One of the standouts from their set is when they played their song Allegiances and talked about the No Kings protest that was happening across the nation. They got my full respect after hearing that and where they stand. The Smoking Popes were a good start to the show and perfectly set up the vibe of the show.
Then we got to the main event.
Bayside started strong with Montauk from their Self-Titled album. They sounded tight, and it was amazing to hear Anthony Raneri live! They’re one of the best-sounding live bands I’ve seen, especially performing an hour-and-a-half set.
The setlist has a mixture of songs from Sirens And Condolences, Self Titled, The Walking Wounded, and Shudder. This is a great throwback setlist with a good mix of the hits and deep cuts. This is probably one of the loudest crowds I've ever heard, as I can listen to everyone singing along to a good chunk of the setlist, and sometimes I forget how catchy the songs are.
The pit broke out during Masterpiece, and boy howdy, people went wild during this song. This is one of the songs from them that I got into when I first started listening to them, and I think it sounds better in a live setting. There were a handful of crowdsurfers going over, and the crowd kept getting crazier as the show went on. When we got to Devotion and Desire, that’s the song of the show that I had to say to myself, "Holy shit." When people screamed, “How could I know”, that was one of the biggest highlights of the whole show.

Overall, this show is a celebration of a band's history of 25 years of punk rock and emo. With a very impressive setlist with 4 classic Bayside albums and how damn good they play, this is probably one of my favorite shows they've put on so far. If Bayside is in town to play a show, don’t miss the opportunity to see them because they’re the best-sounding band to see live.
