LAS VEGAS, NV -- On October 17th the House of Blues in Las Vegas was invaded by everyone’s favorite Scumdogs, GWAR, and I was fortunate enough to be there with my camera in hand.
For those not familiar with the spectacle that is GWAR, allow me to enlighten you.
With a mix of elaborate costumes, hilarious skits and gallons of fake blood and various other bodily fluids, GWAR is more than just a show, it's an experience. Add to that some of the most technical and heavy hitting metal music and you’re now wrapped in a full blown assault of sight and sound.
Opening with a bit about the current presidential election, it wasn’t long before the fluids began to flow. In true GWAR fashion we soon bore witness to the mutilation and killing of a few prominent political figures. Soon the white t-shirt wearing crowd became a sea of multicolored fanatics begging for more.
Being a long time fan of GWAR myself, I was excited to hear some old favorites like "Ham on the Bone" in the set list for the night. As usual, Gwar kept the crowd enthralled with their mix of stage show and heavy metal. The amount of talent present on the stage could not be denied.
With a show that can’t be beat and music that’s hard to match, its no wonder that GWAR has been a powerhouse in the music scene for so many years. Since the mid-80's GWAR has been dominating stages and blowing the minds of fans and critics alike.
Don’t be afraid to check out the “weird” looking bands. They might just end up being one of the most entertaining bands you’ll ever see. I saw GWAR for the first time in the early-90's and have been a fan ever since. I went to the show originally just because they looked cool and once I heard them I was instantly hooked.
In closing, go see your favorite bands but also open yourself up to something different. There is so much good music in the world and you never know what the artists are like until you see them live. GWAR is one of the best live shows I have ever seen and every show is a new experience. Support music in all its forms and the world will be brighter for it.
