LAS VEGAS, NV - I’m not sure if I have ever been more excited for a show as I was to see the legendary King Diamond on 11/30/2024 at the Theatre at Virgin Hotel and casino. This was one high on my bucket list of shows.
Being over 20 years since I was last able to catch King Diamond live, I wasn’t sure what to expect walking in. I was hooked on this band since I first heard their album Them all the way back in 1989 when I was in the 7th grade, and this most recent outing just reaffirmed my love and admiration for the music as well as the stage show.
A vocal range that's hard to match flowing with the storytelling of the King himself, makes this band stand out from the rest. Known to some as the "Godfather" of modern black metal, King Diamond combines the speed of heavy thrash with booming almost operatic vocals.
The stories told through albums like Them and Conspiracy as well as the haunting tale of Abigail makes it difficult not to listen to every song front to back.
With roots going back to the early 80s and Mercyful Fate, King Diamond has a long history of enthralling the masses with his haunting vocals. Even with the diversity of today's music it would be difficult to find anyone who could match the power of King Diamond.
For those that have never listened to King Diamond, I would recommend the albums Them and Conspiracy back to back. For anyone who hasn’t seen them live I strongly suggest you jump on the next opportunity. This is a show you don’t want to miss and music you want in your library.
I believe this is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time, and one I hope to catch again. Being a long time fan of King Diamond, and having seen them a few times over the years, I can say that this is one band that never disappoints with either an album or a show.
I look forward to their upcoming album The Institute in the near future and with luck catch them next time they roll through Vegas.
