Skanktastic Seattle Ska Band Simple Minded Symphony Releasing New Album on August 22nd

If you like ska, ska-punk and reggae, then I think you are going to like the band Simple Minded Symphony as they are a very melodic throwback style band to the 90's when ska was one of the main subgenres of rock music.

They have a sound that reminds me of The Hippos (early stuff), and other bands like The Toasters and Streetlight Manifesto.

Here's the full information from Ska Punk International about the release:

Simple Minded Symphony are releasing their sophomore album Simple Minded Symphony on Tuesday, August 22.

On the week of August 14, the band will be premiering a new music video for each song on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Simple Minded Symphony will be available on all streaming platforms Tuesday, August 22.

Washington-based ska band Simple Minded Symphony formed on Whidbey Island, WA in 2010 when four band kids decided they wanted to make ska-punk music. Inspired by the infectious grooves of Mustard Plug and the intricate melodies of Streetlight Manifesto, ‘SMS’ sought out to form their own sonic blend of Ska - something heavy and groovy.

The band’s current lineup was established in 2022, right before the band went on tour with San José Ska legends MONKEY. The new cast of musicians consists of three original SMS members from 2010. Despite the many phases of the band since its formation, the main essence of the group remains the same: get people movin’.

The newest SMS record, releasing on Ska Punk International Records on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, is appropriately self-titled as it encompasses songs from their beginning, reimagined with a modern sound, as well as new songs with current ideas and fresh stories.

Simple Minded Symphony fuses heavy grooves with thoughtful horn lines to deliver stories of repairing friendships, managing guilt, holding hate, and expressing love.

Recorded, mixed, and mastered by the band’s very own Jason Kincy, SMS hopes to provide listeners with a freshly squeezed sound from song to song.

“I’ve lived with a lot of these songs for what seems like forever - it feels really good to record and capture them in their final forms. It’s also exciting to share what we’ve learned over our musical journey within the newer songs, like Feather.
As a composer for the group, it’s always been a goal of mine to be honest with what I’m trying to portray, but also keep things engaging from song to song, and I think we managed to do that with this album.” -Kevin Silveira, Bass/Vocals (He/Him)
